I love getting rewarded for the hard work i put into my sport, it makes me more determined to improve!
I received a phone call a short while ago now from the York Press, i had been nominated for the Sporting Hero award at the York Press Community Pride Awards. Its always a great night full of very influncial and inspirational people. People who go the extra mile for the community or their passions within the community.
I had been runner up at these awards previously in 2012/2013 and had such a great night, full of emotion and pride for the award winners and again this year there was no shortage of that!
I was a Finalist against a Retired Rugby Player who had taken up Personal Training to the local community, and doing a fantastic job to get people in shape and feeling fitter. Also in my catagory was a Rugby coach, who coached am U11 side, helping people from less privaliged backgrounds, in such ways as buying them kit and teaching them discipline.
I am thrilled to say I won for my efforts this season, in Winning most things in Britain that are on offer. I however didnt feel such a hero as the rest of the people in the room, after all i just chuck a heavy ball about, and throw some weights around in a gym. Some of these people in the same room had saved lives, and helped provide support for others, which in my eyes deserves alot more than just this award!
Anyway i had a great night, and i was privaliged to share a stage with these people!
After the buzz of winning these awards, i recieved a letter from my local Council, and i have been nominated for another award, which is the Sports Person of the Year award, for the Hambleton Area! So cant wait to see what happens! i will keep you all posted, thanks to everyone who made the season what it was and who made the night as great as it was!
